Angel Gutierrez, M.D., FACP
Angel Gutierrez, M.D. has served on the Foundation's Board of Trustees since 2004 and was elected as board chair in 2011.
He is currently a medical coordinator with the New York State Department of Health, Office of Professional Medical Conduct, based in Buffalo, NY.

Gutierrez was appointed by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo to the Public Health and Health Planning Council in 2011.
He earned his medical degree from Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina. He completed his postgraduate training as an internist at the University of Buffalo affiliated hospitals.
He is a resident of Buffalo, where he lives with his wife Elisabeth Zausmer, M.D.

Stephen J. Suhowatsky
Stephen J. Suhowatsky has been a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees since 2003 and currently serves as vice chair.
Suhowatsky, retired president and CEO of Syracuse Supply Company, is a managing partner of C3 Strategic, LLC, a management consulting and human capital investment firm, and is an entrepreneur in residence at Syracuse Technology Garden. He is also the international director of Newarks, LLC, which runs pre-seed workshops throughout the world to bring entrepreneurial ideas into businesses.

He is chair of the Seed Capital Fund of Central New York, is president of the Board of Directors of the Lakefront Development Corporation and is a member of the Advisory Board of On Point for College.
In recognition of his contributions, he received the Chairman of the Year from the New York Contractors Association and the national Rebuilding America Award.
Suhowatsky holds a bachelor's degree from Delta State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He and his wife reside in Fayetteville, NY and have three children, Stephanie, Allison, and Jennifer.

Marilyn Baader
Marilyn Baader has been a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees since 2004.
Baader served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY for seven years. Prior to becoming executive vice president and chief operating officer, she held the position of director of nursing and vice president for patient services at Crouse Hospital for 23 years. Now retired, she is currently the deputy clerk in the Village of Cayuga, NY.

Baader is chair of the Board of Directors of East Hill Family Medical in Auburn, NY and is a trustee emeritus of Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY.
She received an associate degree in accounting from Cayuga Community College, a bachelor's degree in nursing from Keuka College and a master's degree in education from Syracuse University.
Baader resides in Union Springs, NY with her husband, Jack.

Sally Berry
Sally Berry joined the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2007 and currently serves as its secretary.
She is the former senior vice president of policy and program development at Loretto, a network of agencies committed to the mission of improving the quality of life for older adults in Central New York.

In her position at Loretto, Berry is responsible for organizational development, advancing organizational capacity and enhancing sustainability through the development of resources, project development, supporting quality assurance and building community partnerships. She also developed and is working to implement a Continuous Quality Improvement Initiative, using a Lean Six Sigma foundation. In addition, she oversees community and government relations, grants and research activities and supervises the fund development efforts of the Loretto Foundation.
Prior to coming to Loretto, Berry was the executive director of Vera House, Inc., a human service agency focusing on domestic violence, for 23 years. Her responsibilities in this position included administration of the agency and its programs, financial management, fund development, public speaking and training, program development and serving as a liaison to the Board of Directors and to the community. She is one of the founders of and former co-chair of the Syracuse Area Domestic Violence Coalition, which is staffed and administered by Vera House.
Berry was also an adjunct professor at Onondaga Community College, where she developed and presented a course on family violence.
She currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the New York Association for Homes and Services for the Aging, United Way of Central New York, Christopher Community and Contact Community Services. She is a past board member of Central New York Services, Inc., the Alzheimer's Association of CNY and the Central New York Girl Scout Council, and was a member of the Thursday Morning Roundtable, Pres-Ex of Central New York, and the Onondaga County District Attorney's Advisory Council. In addition, she has participated in various New York State task forces related to domestic violence and senior services.
She has received the Ralph E. Kharas Award, presented by the CNY American Civil Liberties Union for Distinguished Service in Civil Liberties; the Post Standard Achievement Award; Governor's Justice, Freedom and Courage to End Domestic Violence Award; and the Spirit of American Women Award, presented by Girls Incorporated of CNY.
She holds a bachelor's degree in social relations from Cornell University and has completed graduate coursework in social work and public administration.
Berry lives in Lafayette, NY with her husband Robert.

Joseph J. Cozzo
Joseph J. Cozzo joined the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2010.
Cozzo, a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a nationally certified trauma counselor, currently serves as president and chief executive officer of Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center. In his role as president, Cozzo leads an organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for adults, children and infants with communication disorders and learning difficulties. In addition to offering speech and language services to clients from birth to the elder years, BHSC offers innovative programs in autism intervention and literacy re-claiming for children and young adults.

Cozzo is a Community Health Foundation Fellow, founding member and president of the West Buffalo Charter School Board of Trustees and a member of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus Board of Directors.
He also gives back to the Western New York community through his work in providing volunteer training and consultation with adoptive and foster parents.
In 2007, Cozzo received the Global Citizen of the World Award from The International Institute in recognition of his dedication to foreign adoption and direct work with orphanages in 14 countries around the world.
Cozzo received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Niagara University, a master's degree in psychology from the University of LaVerne and a master's degree in clinical counseling from Canisius College.
He lives in Williamsville, NY with his wife Diane and has two children, Heather and Joshua.

Catherine A. Gale, Esq.
Catherine Gale, Esq., became a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2003.
An experienced trial attorney, Gale founded the law firm of Gale & Dancks, LLC, in 1997, where she represents health care providers in malpractice litigation, licensure issues, risk management and insurance coverage questions. She was previously an associate and partner at the firm of Mackenzie Hughes in Syracuse, NY.

A frequent speaker and lecturer, she has presented numerous workshops and seminars for professional, legal and medical organizations and taught graduate level courses to law and nursing students at higher education institutions in Central New York.
Gale is a member of several professional organizations, including the New York State Bar Association, Madison County Bar Association and Onondaga County Bar Association, as well as the American College of Trial Lawyers, American Board of Trial Advocates, Defense Research Institute and the American Health Lawyers Association.
She is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of Cazenovia College. She previously served on the Advisory Board of Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Central New York, the Board of Directors of Regional Learning Services, Board of Directors of the Metropolitan School for the Arts and the Board of Directors of Onondaga Pastoral Counseling Center, Inc.
During her career, Gale has received several awards and honors, including being named a Fellow of the American College of Trial Attorneys, a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and an advocate of the American Board of Trial Attorneys. She was also given a Martindale-Hubbell "AV" rating, selected as one of New York's Super Lawyers in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 for Upstate New York, named a Top 25 Female Litigator for Upstate New York and received the CNY Women in Business Award in 2005.
A registered nurse, Gale earned a bachelor's degree, Master of Public Administration degree and Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University.

Arthur R. Goshin, M.D., M.P.H.
Arthur R. Goshin, M.D., M.P.H, was a founder of the Health Foundation of Western and Central New York and has been a trustee of its board since 2008.
Goshin is currently the founder and director of the Office of Global Health Initiatives at the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is also an adjunct professor of oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Goshin also founded HealthyWorld Foundation in 2006 and is its president and chief executive officer. HealthyWorld Foundation seeks to advance the development of interventions that help the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world lead healthier lives. He funds a series of health projects in Uganda and India.
Goshin was previously the founder, president and CEO of Univera Healthcare for 30 years.
Very active in the community, Goshin is currently the chair of the Dean's Advisory Council of the University at Buffalo's School of Public Health and Health Professions and chairs the boards of several organizations, including SafePath Benefits, Inc., Elderplan and Peak Health Solutions. He is also vice chair of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Jewish Health Foundation and a member of the Board of Trustees of the international development organization Freedom from Hunger.
Goshin earned a bachelor's degree in biology and Doctor of Medicine degree from the University at Buffalo and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Michigan.
He residents in East Amherst, NY with his wife, Renée, and has two children, Erik and Daniel.

Robert A. Ludwig
Robert A. Ludwig was a founder of the Health Foundation of Western and Central New York and has been a trustee of its board since 2003.
He is the former senior vice president and chief information officer of Health Care Plan, Univera Healthcare.

Ludwig is a member of the Advisory Board of Locust Street Neighborhood Art Classes, Inc. and volunteers his time to People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH) in Buffalo.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a master's degree in economics from Columbia University.
Ludwig lives with his wife Marcy in Buffalo, NY, and they have two children, David and Sarah.

James L. Magavern
James L. Magavern has served on the Board of Trustees since 2003.
Magavern is counsel to the law firm of Magavern Magavern Grimm LLP, practicing in the areas of administrative law, business law, appellate practice, construction law, environmental law, municipal law and health law, with a concentration in the areas of state and local government law, corporate law and land use regulation and development.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Zoological Society of Buffalo, Inc. and the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo.
In recognition of his work, Magavern has received several awards, including the Lawyer of the Year by the Bar Association of Erie County in 1998 and the Edwin F. Jaeckle Award, the highest honor bestowed by the University at Buffalo Law School, in 2001. Most recently in 2011 he was honored with the Friend of Wildlife Award by the Zoological Society of Buffalo.
Magavern received a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
He is a resident of Buffalo, NY.

Eugene Meeks
Eugene Meeks joined the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2010.
Meeks has nearly 30 years of experience in the human service arena, primarily in the family service field. His clinical experience includes counseling individuals, couples and families, and group work with youths. In addition, he has experience in the areas of human service administration, program development and planning.

Meeks is currently president and CEO of Child & Family Services, a not-for-profit family service agency that provides preventive, educational, behavioral health care and community based services, as well as employee assistance and child welfare services, to residents of the City of Buffalo and the eight counties of Western New York. Meeks is also president of The Stanley Falk School, an affiliate of Child & Family Services.
Under Meeks' leadership, Child & Family Services has grown from a $3.9 million organization to an agency with an annual budget of more than $33 million. Through his insight and dedication to efficient, quality service delivery, the agency has added numerous programs to its portfolio of services.
He serves on the Board of Directors of Univera Healthcare, People, Inc. and D'Youville College, and is a member of the Buffalo Rotary Club and the Erie County Coordinating Council for Children and Families. He is also a founding member of the Care Management Coalition.
Meeks currently lives in Williamsville, NY with his wife, Glenda.

Patricia J. Numann, M.D.
Patricia J. Numann, M.D., has served on the Board of Trustees since 2009.
Numann, retired from active practice as a surgeon specializing in endocrine and breast surgery and her position as medical director of SUNY Upstate Medical University, is a Lloyd S. Rogers Professor of Surgery Emeritus. She is also a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus and SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus.

Numann founded the Breast and Endocrine Center at SUNY Upstate University Hospital, which now bears her name.
Numann also founded the American Association of Women Surgeons, an organization that is committed to supporting the professional and personal needs of female surgeons throughout their careers, in 1986, and was one of the founding members of the Association for Surgical Education.
She was the first woman elected to the American Medical Association Council on Scientific Affairs, was named as the first woman chair of the American Board of Surgery in 1995 and as the first female second vice president of the American College of Surgeons in 1999. She was elected first vice president of the American College of Surgeons in 2010 and in 2011, became president-elect of the American College of Surgeons.
She previously served as vice president of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons and president of the Association for Surgical Education.
A member of the American Surgical Association, she is also a member of the American Medical Association, the Association of Endocrine Surgeons and the International Society of Surgery. In addition, Numann is a member of the American College of Surgeons Fundamentals of Surgery Curriculum™ Steering Committee and one of the program's authors.
Also active in the community, Numann is vice president of the Board of Everson Museum of Art; a trustee of the Hospice Foundation of Central New York Board, Vera House Foundation Board and Greater Roxbury Learning Initiative Corporation and is a emeritus member of the Upstate Medical University Medical Alumni Association.
For her work, Numann has been recognized with numerous awards at the local, state and national level, including the American Medical Women's Association's highest award, the Elizabeth Blackwell Medal, in 2006. Also in 2006, she received the American College of Surgeon's Distinguished Award, the first time a woman was given this prestigious award. Other awards include America's Top Surgeons Award in 2004; Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund in 2003; the Onondaga County Medical Society Physician Service Award in 1998; Distinguished Alumna Award from SUNY Upstate Medical University and a SUNY Alumna of Distinction Award.
Numann was inducted into the International Women in Medicine Hall of Fame of the American Women's Medical Association and was named a "Local Legend" to The National Library of Medicine's "Changing Faces of Medicine" exhibit.
Locally, she has received the Post Standard Woman of Achievement Award; the Onondaga County Physician Service to the Community Award; the New York State Woman of Accomplishment Award, and the Nina Starr Braunwald Award of the Association of Women Surgeons.
She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester and a Doctor of Medicine degree from SUNY Upstate Medical Center. She completed her general surgery residency at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse.

Peter J. O'Neill
Peter J O'Neill has served on the Board of Trustees since 2006 and is currently chairman of the Investment Committee.
O'Neill worked for more than 15 years at Agway Inc. a supply side cooperative with sales of $1.25 billion and assets of $1.5 billion operating in five business segments: Agriculture Supply, Country Food Products, Energy, Insurance, and Leasing.

When he retired in 2004, he was serving as chief financial officer and senior vice president, finance, and control. He led a corporate staff which, among other things, met the needs for corporate and subsidiary financing and the required management and reporting of trust assets. He also served as chairman of the Board of Agway's property casualty insurance company and Agway's equipment leasing company.
Prior to his work with Agway, he was an audit partner in the Syracuse office of Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young). He worked with Ernst & Whinney for more than 19 years with a wide variety of clients, primarily in the areas of insurance, manufacturing and commercial enterprises, with supplementary experience in banking, not-for-profit, and government.
Community organizations in which O'Neill has been a former director, president or trustee include: The Institute of Cooperative Financial Officers, Crouse Hospital Foundation, Health Alliance, Community General Hospital, BlueCross BlueShield of Central New York, LeMoyne College Board of Regents, LeMoyne College Alumni Board of Governors, United Way of Central New York, United Way Central New York Allocation Committee, and Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.
O'Neill holds a bachelor's degree from LeMoyne College and in 1999 was recognized with the LeMoyne College Distinguished Alumni Award.
Peter and his wife, Anne, live in Manlius, NY and have three married children.

Leola Rodgers
Leola Rodgers joined the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2010.
She is currently the associate administrator at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital of SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.

Rodgers is the second vice president of the board of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York, a member of the Board of the United Way of Central New York and a member of the Excellus Regional Health Care Quality Assurance Committee.
She is a mentor for On Point for College, a health leadership Fellow and mentor for the Ladders to Leaders program at the Community Health Foundation and a lifetime member of the National Black MBA Association.
Rodgers was honored with the Jerrideth Wilson Volunteer Recognition Award from Enable in 2011; President's Award for Diversity and Affirmative Action from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2005 and the 25 Women in Leadership Award from WTVH-TV Channel 5 in Syracuse in 2003.
Rodgers holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Detroit and a Master of Public Health and Health Administration degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
She resides in Cicero, NY and has one son, Brandon.

L. Thomas Wolff, M.D.
L. Thomas Wolff, M.D. has served on the Foundation's Board of Trustees since 2006.
Wolff is the medical director of the Physician Assistant program and SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus in the Department of Family Medicine at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University.

A nationally recognized family medicine educator, Wolff played a key role in the development of the Rural Medical Education program at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Throughout his career, Wolff has been an active leader of several local, state and national professional organizations, including serving as president of the American Board of Family Medicine and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. He currently chairs the Advisory Council for the SUNY Retirees Service Corps and is a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
His work has been recognized with several awards, including the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award at the Association of American Medical Colleges in 2000; Thomas W. Johnson Award from the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2006 and the New York State Senator Patricia McGee Award for Outstanding Contributions to Rural Health in 2007.
Wolff earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Siena College and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Albany Medical College.
He and his wife Carol live in Liverpool, NY, and have four daughters and 11 grandchildren.

C. Anthony Rider, CPA
C. Anthony Rider, CPA joined the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2012 and currently serves as its treasurer.
Rider, the chief financial officer at Locke Acquisition Group, LLC in Williamsville, NY, brings to the board more than 30 years of experience in accounting, finance, strategic planning and organizational leadership.

His previous positions include chief financial officer at International Imaging Materials, Inc.; Mod-Pac/Astronics; and partner, director of audit and entrepreneurial services at Ernst & Young, LLP in Buffalo.
He is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Rider is a director of The One Hundred Club of Buffalo, where he has served as president, and serves on the Canisius College Council of Accountancy.
Rider received a bachelor's degree from Canisius College.
He is currently a resident of Buffalo, NY.

Lisa D. Alford
Lisa D. Alford became a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2012.
Alford is the commissioner of the Onondaga County Department of Aging and Youth in Syracuse, NY, whose mission is to support a comprehensive system of services for children and youths, senior citizens, caregivers and families through advocacy, planning, coordination, direct services and program funding.

Active in her community, Alford is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Elmcrest Children's Center, is a member of the board of the OASIS Senior Education Program, a member of the Junior League of Syracuse, League of Women Voters and is the local chapter President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an international community service organization. She also serves on the NY Connects State Long Term Care Advisory Council, the Say Yes to Education Advisory Committee and the Fayetteville-Manlius School District Committee on Special Education and Committee on Preschool Special Education.
Alford previously served on the New York State Early Intervention Committee, the board of the Syracuse Association for the Education of Young Children, the Syracuse/Onondaga County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission and as a member and co-chair of the Child Care Council of Onondaga County board.
Alford was honored with the Champion of Diversity Community Service Award from P.E.A.C.E., Inc. in 2009; the Diversity Achiever Award from the YWCA of Syracuse-Onondaga County in 2009; and the Community Service Award from the Junior League of Syracuse Inc. in 2008.
She holds a bachelor's degree in communication disorders from Hampton University and a master's degree in audiology from The Ohio State University. She also earned a certificate of advanced studies from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and a certificate from the Head Start Johnson & Johnson Management Fellows Program at the University of California Los Angeles.

Denise Dunford, DNS, FNP, RN
Denise Dunford, DNS, FNP, RN, was one of six new members that joined the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2012.
Dunford, an associate professor and director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at D'Youville College, also maintains an active clinical practice as a nurse practitioner in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Buffalo General Hospital.

She is a member of the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine, the American College of Nurse Practitioners, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, the American Association of University Professors and the American Emergency Nurses Association. She is also a member of the National Breast Cancer Coalition, the Susan G. Komen Foundation Partnership and is a volunteer network speaker for the American Heart Association in Buffalo, NY.
Dunford has received many professional and academic awards and honors for her work, including the National Competence in Aging Award from the Emergency Nurses Association in 2010; Women of Influence Award from Business First of Buffalo in 2007; Catherine McAuley Distinguished Alumna Award from Mount Mercy Academy in 2003; Outstanding Nursing Faculty Award from D'Youville College in 2002; and The Nurses' Health Study 20-Year Anniversary Award, 1989-2009.
Dunford earned an associate degree in nursing from Erie Community College, a bachelor's degree in social science from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a bachelor's in nursing degree from D'Youville College, a Master of Science - Family Nurse Practitioner degree from the University at Buffalo and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University at Buffalo.
She and her husband William reside in Buffalo, NY.

David A. Milling, M.D.
David A. Milling, M.D., became a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2012.
Milling is currently the senior associate dean for student and academic affairs and associate professor in clinical medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

In his position as senior associate dean, Milling is responsible for all undergraduate medical school operations relating to students including admissions, student services, registrar services, student disciplinary matters and the clinical skills center.
Prior to his current position, Milling served in a number of roles in the UB Office of Medical Education, including associate dean for multicultural affairs, medical director of the Clinical Competency Program, director of the Post-Baccalaureate Program, and director of the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP Program).
For his work, he received the Louis A. and Ruth Siegel Award for Teaching Excellence in 1994 and 2000, as well as the Carter F. Panell Award for Outstanding Teacher in 2000.
Milling earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the National Medical Association.

Melva D. Visher
Melva D. Visher, M.A., RHIA, is currently an adjunct professor in community and school health at Canisius College and associate professor in the Business Department at Daemen College.
After 38 years of service she retired as vice president for community health at Kaleida Health in January 2012.

Visher is a member of the board of the Health Sciences Charter School in Buffalo, NY and is a member of the WNY Safety Net Leadership Council, the National Assembly for School-Based Health Care and the New York State Coalition for School-Based Health Care. She also serves on the service and workforce committee at the SUNYAB School of Public Health and Health Professions.
Visher is also a member of the Independent Health Foundation Board of Directors, Fellows Action Network, the Association for Community Health Improvement, the American Health Information Management Association, the New York Health Information Management Association and the Health Information Management Association of Western New York.
She was previously a member of the Community Health Planning Institute, Consumer Engagement Committee at the P2 Collaborative of Western New York, the Board of the Buffalo Alliance for Education, operations committee for Univera Community Health, grants committee at the Susan G. Komen WNY Foundation and was a member of the advisory board at the Center for Transportation Excellence.
She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in business and policy studies from SUNY Empire State College and completed a post-baccalaureate certification in medical records administration at Daemen College. She is currently a Registered Health Information Administrator.
Visher is a resident of Amherst, NY.

Vincent J. Mancuso
Vincent J. Mancuso has been a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees since 2012.
Mancuso retired as senior executive vice president, group audit and North America, at HSBC Bank in Buffalo, NY in 2006.

Throughout his more than 40-year career at Marine Midland Bank and HSBC, Mancuso held several positions within the company, including working in branches, credit management, national asset lending and leasing.
Mancuso is currently a member the Board of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society and is a Regent Emeritus of Canisius College. A former chair and member of the Board of Trustees at D'Youville College, he currently serves on its finance committee. He is also a member of the Hospice Signature Society.
Mancuso was recognized with membership in the DiGamma Honor Society at Canisius College in 1992, received the Bernard L. Martin Distinguished Alumni Award from Canisius College in 1988 and the Financial Services Advocate of the Year from the U.S. Small Business Administration in 1987.
He and his wife Patricia live in Orchard Park, NY, and have two children and four grandchildren.
